Porcelain Crowns
Dental Crowns or Caps

Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain crowns (natural looking tooth colored crowns) are a great choice because they are made to match the shape, size, and color or your natural teeth and are highly durable.

Most often porcelain dental crowns also known as “caps” are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth and improve the appearance of one or more tooth. These crowns fully cover each tooth to the gum line as well as protect tooth structure that cannot be repaired with other types of restorations.

Reasons for a crown:

  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings
  • Tooth has a root canal

Dental Crown Procedure
Usually, a dental crown takes two appointments. During your first appointment, we remove portions of your natural tooth’s structure to accommodate the new crown. We may prepare some of the surrounding teeth in the same way. Next, an impression (mold) is made and sent to the dental laboratory, where your new permanent crown will be fabricated in about two weeks. In the meantime, we’ll put a natural-looking temporary crown in place until your permanent crown is ready to be bonded in its place.

As always, proper diet, good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are the keys to extending the life of your dental crown and your winning smile.
